In 1969 my father and myself started work at Foyers and were there for 3/4 years. The shafts were very difficult to get waterproofed being so close to the loch and it took a lot of "Bow Gee" as the grouting was called to finally get the rock to stop leaking water. The tunnel was driven into the hill side back to Loch Mhor which fed the water to drive the generators, it was then pumped back to the loch to be used again and again. If there was a problem and the water had to be stopped then a surge shaft was driven 800ft down from the top of a hill about a half mile from the loch side, as water finds its own level this shaft coped with any sudden problem or maintenance situation. An interesting place to have worked at. Previous to this we had worked at Cowgreen dam in County Durham and were at Fawley for 4 years when that was being built. My late father had been working at various dams that were being built in the highlands after the war and the workforce travelled all over. As I never saw the finished work at Foyers your photographs were very interesting. Thanks very much. Alex Scott
